Verification

Verification

Often refers to users or new subscribers actively acknowledging that they do want to join a mailing list or other service. Successful email marketers employ opt-in or double opt-in systems for their mailing lists to collect subscribers. When a subscriber wants to join a mailer’s list and receive e-newsletters or offers regularly, the user will submit their information and verify that they agree to the sender’s terms of service and that they do want to go forward with their subscription. When a potential subscriber signs up for receiving email messages, the system will automatically send verification emails to new subscribers. Often these emails will instruct the new user to follow a link to once again confirm that they did knowingly subscribe to the newsletter and that their information is correct.

User verification is important to email marketing. Asking users to verify their agreement to receive emails lessens the risk that regular messages will be marked as spam, hurting the marketer’s email campaign.

In terms of email messages and clients, verification may also refer to a program that determines the email internet provider or IP. It is important for account security that the email actually came from the sender listed in the return path or internet headers. In cases where the email did not come from the listed sender, the email is considered forged; forged senders are likely to be spammers or users with malicious intent.

Verification can also refer to email verification services that verify the accuracy and validity of email addresses on your email list(s) or during the email collection process. Email verification tools, like Kickbox, provide valuable insights (see list below) about each email address to help you make smarter sending decisions & safeguard your most valuable asset—your email data.
