What is an Email Domain?

Email Domain Explained

An email domain is the web address that comes after the @ symbol in an email address. Common examples of email domains include gmail.com and yahoo.com, primarily used for personal email accounts.

However, most businesses create custom email domain names for their employees. For example, for a Johndoe@company.com email address, “company.com” is the email domain.

An email domain will generally correspond with a business’s website to allow recipients to identify who the email is coming from quickly and must match the requirements of the hosting provider, consisting of only letters, digits, hyphens, and dots.

How to Create Your Own Email Domain

If you don’t already have a custom email domain, here’s how to create one.

1. Choose a hosting/domain provider

Many hosting companies like Bluehost, Hostgator, and so on sell email hosting services along with a custom domain name. Just as a website hosting service or company helps you host your website on a server, these email hosting providers do the same for email. When choosing a hosting or domain provider, carefully consider what’s included in each plan. For example, you should check the number of mailboxes available and each mailbox’s storage size so you don’t have to delete important messages. Select your plan

2. Check for domain availability

Since you don’t already have an email domain name, you’ll need to choose one. It’s best to make the email domain name the same as your company or website name. Domain availability

3. Register an available email domain

Fill in your card details on the checkout page and register your email domain. After payment, you’ll need to follow the instructions from your hosting provider to create new email addresses. Once you’ve gotten your custom email domain name, it’s time to build your email list, connect your domain to your chosen email marketing platform and start sending emails to subscribers who are interested in your products and services.
