Double Opt-in

Double Opt-in

A double opt-in subscription method is the recommended process by which users subscribe to an email newsletter subscription list. Once the initial request is received by the originator of email marketing messages, an autoresponder system sends out a message to the subscriber’s email provided in the initial sign on procedure that requests the user to verify their intent. This is usually done when the subscriber clicks a link contained in the verification email. Once the user reaches the verification screen, they may also be presented with several other links that allow them to reject their initial request, warns the user that if they did not send the request and gives them a simple recourse to opt-out, and how they can modify their subscription preferences. Increasingly, more online email newsletter services require this method in order to reduce the number of spam and bounce reports.
