In email marketing, this is a communication that refers back to a commercial action that occurred between a business and a customer, which may have included a purchase, a complaint or a customer service or support request via email. These email messages do not typically refer to any marketing on behalf of the sender. Instead, they note only the recipient’s previous commercial actions. Relationship emails may be receipts of payment, which include transaction details and payments received. They may also be a simple notice of receipt of a request on the customer’s behalf, or may include a template solution for simple or common customer issues. Because these messages are in response to user requests and single actions, relationship messages do not necessarily comply with CAN-SPAM requirements.
