this is an all-inclusive whitelist that is maintained by AOL (America Online). This company grants special permissions for bulk emailers who meet strict delivery standards. Email newsletter marketers who are are approved for this enhanced list have fewer than 1 spam complaint per 1000 emails. For successfully maintaining valuable email transmissions, organizations who are on this enhanced whitelist are able to bypass AOL’s automatic suppression of images and links. This auto bypass adds value to the mailer’s already strong messages, allowing users to immediately see the links and images that are in place to attract their eyes to important messages and opportunities listed in the message.

While 1 spam complaint per 1000 emails is an ambitious goal for senders who send bulk or large communications on a regular basis, but by adhering to a few requirements will help any e-marketer achieve this goal.

First, the marketing messages sent out must add value to their recipients. If the messages do not add consistent value, or attract recipient’s interest, these may eventually be marked as spam. Marketing messages must also come at a regular frequency but not an overwhelming number. If a user is flooded with messages, again the transmissions may be reported as spam.

Finally a successful marketer will build a list of interested readers and customers. Readers who have opted-in for email newsletters or sales messages are less likely to report and block messages. It is also imperative that marketers allow recipients to easily opt-out of these messages. If a user is no longer gaining value from these mass transmission, they may choose to remove themselves from the mailing list if the process is simple enough. If the opt-out process is complicated, the likelihood of transmissions to this user being marked as spam increases greatly.
