Object Hyperlinking

Object Hyperlinking

Object Hyperlinking is a newly coined term (or neologism) that usually refers to extending the link between information offered on the internet and both objects and locations in the real world. This is done by the hardlink method that facilitates the reading and translation of image tags with a wireless mobile device that can visually display the information about objects and locations retrieved.

Linking an object or a location to the internet requires three basic components: 1) an image or alphanumeric tag to identify objects and locations.; 2) a means of reading physical tags, or locating virtual tags with an application on a mobile device that has a camera; and 3) access to a wireless network, such as a 3 or 4G mobile network or other wireless connection.

Two of the internet powerhouses, Microsoft and Google, are jumping in the object hyperlinking game. Microsoft has developed a system for creating hyperlinks using image matching and Google is now in the planning and development stages for tagging over 100,000 businesses in the United States with QR codes.
