Feedly

With the recent demise of Google Reader, Feedly is poised to become the next user-favorite that will deliver their daily dose of news, videos, and blog feeds on one single user-organized browser page.

This new RSS feed application is not really all that new but will fill the void left with Google’s move to nix it from its long list of applications. Feedly began its journey to the future with its release on June 15, 2008, by DevHD. The ultimate goals for this service was to offer applications that would create a platform that uses RSS feeds, online storage, and social media integration to connect users with information and entertainment they wanted.

As an add-on for Firefox and Chrome, it will, with a few clicks and choices port over the RSS feeds currently stored in user’s Google Reader account. However, this reader goes beyond the old news aggregators and presents stories by category, popularity and even media types- all on one page designed like a magazine page to include article featured images. Other perks include videos that are embedded and therefore can be viewed without leaving the page.

Feedly integrates into a web browser with a click-able icon that sends the user to their page, where all of the news feeds are found.

Users can customize the content aggregated by Feedly to include their favorite RSS feeds and can be altered based on layout, color, and categorization of articles based on sources, likes, and those referred to by other users. Any article can then be shared with email, Facebook, Google+ and Twitter among others.
