CafeMom

CafeMom is a social networking site that limits users to mothers and mothers-to-be. Men can read CafeAnswers but are not allowed to be members or participate in order to create a safe place for women to share experiences and opinions with each other. The original site was founded in 2006 by Michael Sanchez and Andrew Shue.

Within the first year of its launch in 2006, it had more page views than any other website targeting women users. According to recent data, more than eight million unique visitors and 140 million page views are recorded per month.

CafeMom is an ad-supported site and now owned by CMI Marketing, an internet service company, which began turning a profit in 2009. There are a wide variety of advertisers whose products range from baby foods, clothing, and accessories to necessities and luxury items for moms and moms-to-be. Some brands even sponsor games on the site, along with promotion for programming they sponsor. CafeMom also produces their own online video productions, stylized as talk shows, interviews, and the occasional celebrity spokesperson endorsing products advertised on the website.

This social media portal is very similar to other social networking sites, where each registered member has a profile page, with photos, posts where others can leave comments. There is also an email feature and a buddy list that allows users to see which friends they have online.
