Broadcast

Broadcast

in terms of mass emails and email marketing, refers to email messages that are sent by an individual sender to a large audience. Broadcasting simultaneously sends the same message to everyone in a network. (This differs from multicasting, in which a message is sent to a select list of recipients.) The sender can be an individual, company or organization. Broadcasts, or mass emails, share the sender’s message to the interested populace– usually a subscriber list composed of opt-in recipients. Common broadcasts include sales and promotion information and regularly distributed e-newsletters.

Broadcasts are most effective for email marketing campaigns when they are sent to opt-in recipients. These broadcasts should consist of usable, valuable information and a consistently branded message or format. These elements, along with a receptive audience, prevents broadcast emails from being flagged as spam messages.
