Ambient Intelligence

Ambient Intelligence

Also known by its acronym, AmI, refers to software/hardware environments that are designed to be responsive to a human presence or assists with human interactions. One of the recent innovations that can interact with humans is the voice activated commands that smartphones and tablets have popularized like Apple’s Siri. These devices powered by an API or application program interface, are designed to intuitively support people in carrying out their everyday activities and integrate into the natural way of sharing information.

Ambient intelligence builds upon integrative / ubiquitous computing, programed profiling context awareness and human-centric computer interaction design and is characterized by systems and technologies that are:

Adaptive: Applications or programs that can change in responses that depends on repetitive human actions or a series of related interactions in which the system “learns” as it is used.

Anticipatory: Once interactions begin there is elements of process that can perform tasks or requests without conscious or constant mediation.

Context Aware: Ambient media and application interfaces once engaged can recognize you and your situational context.

Embedded: Either networked devices or applications are integrated into the environment.

Personalized: Applications that react to and are customized according to the primary contacts preferences and/or previous commands.
